Hello, welcome to A Sustainable Closet, can you please tell us more about yourself?

Native Honduran, living in Ithaca, NY for the past 6 years. Bachelor's degree in International Business. Master’s degree in Business Management with a focus on Marketing.

I am a sustainable fashion, art, and culture advocate. When I discovered the negative impacts of the fashion industry, I was deeply upset and concerned. As a result, I decided to help create awareness about it. I create educational content about sustainable fashion and speak about how to be environmental and social activists through fashion.

"I use fashion as my voice, and you can too!!"

“The planet is screaming at us to take care of it - and what better way to do it than with something that I love?” I want to contribute my bit to help create awareness of the way we consume fashion.

What’s your relationship with clothes, when did you get interested in fashion?

Fashion has always been part of my life, I believe that fashion says a lot about ourselves, we can express who we are, like our second skin! I was not aware of the negative impacts of the industry and was a fashion-addicted consumer. Three years ago I changed my consumption patterns and now I have a deep relationship with my clothes!

When did you get interested in sustainable fashion - what was the wake-up call for you and what aspects are you most interested in and concerned about?

When I discovered the negative impacts of fashion, I was deeply upset and concerned. As a result, I decided to help create awareness about it. I create educational content about sustainable fashion and speak about how to be environmental and social activists through fashion. I use fashion as my voice!

You are also in the team of the Slow Fashion Movement - can you tell us more about this work?

Slow Fashion Movement is an NGO, based in the Netherlands, it has local groups around the globe! We unite people globally and locally to take collective action. Leading by example, we demand change from the fashion industry and policymakers. Our vision: A fashion ecosystem that protects the physical well-being of the planet and its people. I am part of the content creator team: our mission is to educate and empower fashion consumers to make environmentally and socially conscious choices.

And what do you do for the Slow Fashion Movement LATAM and what is the purpose of the organisation?

Slow Fashion Movement LATAM is one of the local groups of Slow Fashion Movement Global. Slow Fashion Latin America brings slow and sustainable fashion subjects to the Hispanic, specifically to the Latin community, taking into consideration local context, language, and amount of information already available, thus practising intersectional slow fashion and finding common ground among the 21 countries that Latin America encompasses. We understand and embrace all the values promoted by the Slow Fashion Movement and focus on implementing tangible actions in their communities.

Is there anything else you want to share with us?

Slow Fashion Movement is launching our first campaign of the year! #KnowYourLeather Campaign.

An educational campaign defined by a combination of content and learning methods that will help you develop a knowledge base about leather in the fashion industry. We want to take you on a journey of leather production and consumption where we highlight a different phase in the supply chain. This is a 4-week multi-platform campaign starting on April 1st, 2023.

What can one do that seeks to create a more sustainable closet?

Everyone can practice sustainable fashion! Using what we already have is one of the easiest and most effective ways to practice sustainable fashion! My mantra is creativity over consumption! Repair instead of replacing, most people have the idea that fashion is something you buy, throw away, and repeat.
