October Birthday Wishlist

As the autumn leaves begin to fall, my, Sophie Gripenberg founder of A Sustainable Closet, birthday is just around the corner, and I have a special wishlist in mind to make this season even more delightful. Join me as I explore the wonderful gifts and experiences I'm hoping to enjoy in the crisp and cosy days ahead.

Upcycled sweaters

I absolutely move up cycled and remake brands! There are so many out there, check out our articles about them here and here! This wonderful sweater from the Swedish rewarded brand Remake.

Vegan running shoes

In maintaining an active and physically demanding lifestyle, the significance of reliable footwear cannot be overstated. While you may stumble upon unused shoes in second-hand stores, investing in brand-new running shoes is paramount for the well-being of your feet, especially if you're serious about your running endeavours. Personally, I aim to strike a balance between avoiding leather and steering clear of environmentally harmful plastics. This is why, when the renowned vegan brand "Good Guys Don't Wear Leather" unveiled their inaugural line of running shoes, they immediately soared to the top of my priority list.

Autumn jacket

My admiration for second-hand finds runs deep, but I also have a penchant for discovering jackets that will stand the test of time. I seek out pieces with an impeccable fit, a unique flair, and a timeless quality. A brand that excels in striking this balance is Brixtol. Presently, I find myself with an absence of jackets suitable for the early autumn, owning just a collection of coats and a winter jacket. I'm on the lookout for that perfect in-between option, one that pairs seamlessly with a cozy sweater underneath.

Ethical Interior

I thoroughly enjoy leisurely visits to vintage stores and local markets, where I eagerly hunt for those special items that imbue my home with a unique and deeply personal touch. Be it ceramic cups, vibrantly hued vases, or vintage picture frames with a fresh twist, each discovery adds character and charm. What truly delights me is the art of blending these second-hand gems with handcrafted pieces, particularly those that empower the talented artisans behind them. Among my top choices for such treasures in Stockholm are White Label Project and Brandstationen, two stores that never cease to amaze me with their selections.

Shining Jewellery

In all honesty, I firmly believe that you don't need an extensive wardrobe when you can elevate your style with accessories. A well-chosen hat or necklace has the power to transform any outfit, and meticulously cared-for jewelry can become timeless pieces that pass through generations, embodying sustainability over time. With numerous vintage options available, combining these with ethical choices is the ultimate fashion statement. Allow me to introduce you to a beloved brand hailing from Barcelona: Studio Conchita!

Candles for all your senses

I have an insatiable passion for captivating scents, be it from perfumes, essential oils, or intense fragrances — you name it. I rely on these aromas to immerse myself in specific moods, to stay alert, or to unwind and embrace relaxation. Scented candles hold a special place in my heart, and among my favourites, the offerings from P.F. Candle Co reign supreme. Their tobacco-scented candle, in particular, holds a cherished spot in my olfactory collection.

Dancing and painting courses

A list of physical gifts is of course a wonderful dream list but the most precious gifts are experiences. A dinner with a friend, a dancing night out or why not sign up for a painting course? Gifts that bring memories are among the best.
