Maxi dresses for Summer - Here are our favourites

The Maxi dress! A forever grateful garment that comes in a million shapes and styles. There are the ones to chill in, go to parties in, beaching, work attire, you name it. And it might be one of the best solutions for staying comfy and breezy on hot summer days.

Some history of the maxi dress

The long and flowy dress first became popular during the 1960s after being designed by high-end fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. The maxi dress was an instant hit for many women and remained popular throughout the 1970s until it went into a bit of a recession during the 1980s. During the colourful 1980s, playsuits became the main fashion must-have but were ultimately replaced by miniskirts during the 1990s.

In the 2000s, the maxi dress began to make its grand comeback and today they are just as popular as they were in the 60s and 70s, but certainly with a few changes. For example, the hemline is slightly longer on the modern-day version compared to the ones from 50 years ago.

Before we list our favourite ones for summer 2023, we want to raise a finger to remind all our readers that the maxi dress isn’t just a summer garment. It may work perfectly in winter time too, matched with wool tights, sweaters and blazers.
