3 Sustainable Swimwear brands to look out for

Spring is coming to the northern hemisphere and we can’t wait to put our swimwear on and spend some time in the sun. Some of you might have already unpacked your swimwear from last season, while others realise it’s time to invest in something new. Maybe your body has changed (as it does and should do) or maybe your swimwear has lost some of its shapes and you don’t feel comfortable. Make sure you check out our swimwear-care guide to make your items last as long as possible and if they’re not for you and your body - maybe you can give them to a friend.

For those who seek to invest in new, make sure you make a conscious choice from a brand taking greater responsibility. Swimwear is normally produced in plastic materials such as polyester searching for alternative materials can be tricky. To avoid micro-plastics you can always use an ocean-friendly washing bag that helps filter out microplastics.

Here are some of our favourite brands and picks for the season.

The Finish-based brand Halla Halla collaborated with Healthy Seas to take care of ocean plastic waste. The material used is ECONYL® and for printed fabrics it is REPREVE®. Production is taking place in Bali.

The Stockholm-funded brand Dedicated offers colourful bikinis, shorts and swimsuits in different shapes for comfort. This one is made of recycled polyester, produced by Ek Fashion, a GRS-certified producer based in China.

Probably one of the most responsible brands. Bikinis, swimsuits, shorts and a lot more in different colours and shapes for different activities. Some are made in for example durable 83% recycled nylon, 17% spandex (solids), 83% recycled polyester, 17% spandex (prints) or 80% recycled nylon/20% spandex (jacquards). And of course, Fair Trade Certified™ sewn.
