Hi Marie! Welcome to A Sustainable Closet! Since we are founded in Sweden we would like to start by saying that we Love your sense of style, we have watched your programs on Swedish Television and truly felt like we needed to reach out.

Can you please tell us more about you and when you got interested in interior design?

When I was very young and when I moved away from home I started decorating/renovating and fixing my homes wherever I moved.

You have renovated and designed several homes, what would you say are some of the things people should keep in mind already from the start before creating their dream home?

If you want ONE thing - don’t compromise- cause you will always miss that thing. Better it takes a little longer (the Renovation for example) and you get it or get what you really want. Plus very important - it is a huge challenge to renovate while having small kids - lower your demands - family comes always first!

What would you say will bring that extra touch that most people seem to forget about that you are so good at?

  • Mix the textures - choose materials from different places; wool, silk, wood, concrete, leather, cotton etc.

  • Colour the same family with maybe one contrast or two.

  • Mix furniture from the 1970s ths and 1800s century, barrock with the 1980s or rococo with the 1970s and so on.

  • Experiment! Otherwise, you never learn.

You have a lovely sense of matching Antiques and making them fit anywhere, what should people look for when searching for wonderful antique items?

Choose items that you love and immediately know where to place or put them. Then you can’t go wrong! Lamps are always a good idea cause they are both cool, beautiful and workable!

Trends come and go in interior design too, What is your view of them and how to we create a beautiful home without following trends but also not being too boring?

  • Take notice of trends - but don’t follow.

  • Buy pillows, smaller stuff if you wanna put in a trend colour/material or bedlinen, one cool chair for example that is trendy can update a whole room.

  • Better to change a carpet than a sofa for example. It is better to buy a huge cool modern vase than to change the kitchen table and so on.

What are your current projects and who are you open to working with? Any dream project you longing for?

Next year I will start writing my second book, and move into my new home that I dream of decorating, after renovating for a half year. Then I have one more thing but that’s a secret. I don’t speak about dreams - I do it when it happens.

We also want to ask you, what is your relationship with clothes and your personal style?

I choose clothes in the same way as I choose furniture - I fall in love! I have clothes that is 20 years old that I still use and mix with new and vintage. My personal style is the thing I love - items collected over the years.

Last, anything else you would like to share?

Always Listen to your heart. Do the things YOU believe in.
