The Vintage Shop You Must Visit

In Paid Collaboration with Revolv

Sweden has become well-known for its sustainability work and initiatives. With green forests, plenty of lakes and clean air many see Sweden as a dream destination for a cleaner and greener living, a place to hike not only in the summer but also in the winter. That doesn't mean Sweden is without its problems but it does mean that next time you’re visiting Sweden - see how many sustainable living initiatives you can find. It can be anything from plant-based restaurants, farmer’s markets or the famous activity Plogga (running and picking trash at the same time).

One of the secret gems you don’t want to miss in the Vintage Shop Revolv. Close to the Public Library at Odenplan, this little hideout truly has some amazing gems from all over the world. We had a chat with its founder and owner Karin.

What kind of items do visitors expect to find in your shop?

Since I find the garments when travelling, the shop is constantly updated with preloved gems, from near and far. A wide variety of fabrics, styles and eras are represented in the shop. Clients often express appreciation for the abundance of evening wear and long skirts available amongst everyday garments in stock. Lately, there has been a lot of interest in our beautiful wedding gowns and prom dresses as springtime approaches.

Can you mention some of your favourite items and the history behind them?

When visiting Amsterdam a few years back, I did what I usually do and asked a local for advice on which market to visit.  I was directed to the Waterlooplein Market and I was not disappointed! To my great delight, I  found an old vendor who had recently come across the wardrobe of an elderly lady with fabulous taste in clothes. He told me her life story, while I picked out the finest pieces from the late 60s and early 70s. What a wonderful treat!

Where do you source the vintage items from?

It fully depends on where I have been travelling lately. This fall for instance - I have had the pleasure of exploring both Rome and New York City, but my vintage antenna is constantly active. I find preloved garments everywhere I go, both here in my hometown as well as in Hälsingland, up north in the Swedish countryside. I prefer open-air markets, where I get to meet wonderful individuals who have worn the garments and listen to their stories. I also like to visit local charity shops for precious bargains and other vintage shops for inspiration.
