Residus - a success story of a responsible brand

It has been and still are hard times for the fashion industry. The pandemic, a recession and decreased consumption are having consequences. Fast fashion is not only struggling financially but the question is, of course, if this unsustainable industry is about to die out. Painful times also bring opportunities to do something differently.

This story does not apply to all brands. Some are thriving and one good example is the Stockholm-based brand Residus. Residus has applied sustainability practices since day one. Creating a few collections per year from surplus fabrics, GOTS-certified cotton, TENCELTM LENZINGTM ECOVEROTM fibres, etc. Production is taking place in Europe under REACH regulation and OEKO-TEX certifications. Further, Residus are pioneer in traceability, providing their garments with a QR code so the customer can track the supply chain.

The collections are made of timeless items with a thoughtful designs providing uniqueness but also comfort. The clothes are easily mixed with other items in your closet and provide those basics items that can be hard to find on second-hand.

In 2020 Residus won the Show Up Fashion Award! Last year’s revenue was over 10 million SEK.

Maybe Residus can be an example of how one can make it work today in the fashion industry. By being small, transparent and thoughtful about their design, Residus has made it work when others have not. We are certain that the future fashion industry will follow Residus footsteps.
