Our social media manager on how to start your own business and the value of internship

We are excited to share this short interview with Liz Kamalova. Liz joined A Sustainable Closet at the end of April for an internship as our social media manager. Liz contacted us since her dream is to become a full-time self-employed social media manager and she wanted to have more experience that could improve her work with future clients. Together we set a strategy, timeline and suitable schedule that able Liz to continue with her other work. One month into her work, she got her clients and is now living her dream.

In this interview, she shares her story of why she joined, what she has learned but also what to think about when starting your own business and growing on Instagram. If you also want to have the opportunity to practice your skills as a social media manager or other work related to business, content creation, fashion, sustainability and marketing, you are always welcome to contact us! We love to help you to grow your dreams.

Hi Liz, you've been A Sustainable Closets social media intern for the past few weeks as part of your journey to becoming a full-time self-employed social media manager. Can you tell us why you joined A Sustainable Closet and decided to do an internship with us?

I have always been enthusiastic about social media and fashion, so when I decided to level up my career and a step toward becoming a full-time social media manager, it felt natural for me to try it in the sustainable fashion area. When I stumbled upon an opportunity with A Sustainable Closet, it was just perfect for me! I have decided to do it right away because I knew it would not only give me a valuable experience as a social media manager but also a sneak peek into the sustainability in fashion.

What have you learned throughout your internship?

I think the most important thing is that I've got a chance to manage someone's social media account using different strategies on how to grow the account and get a better exposure - something that you can't test on your account only.

What is your best advice for anyone who wants to share their message and promote their business on Instagram?

I would say that you shouldn't be afraid to experiment! Social media is changing every day, every day there is news on what new features are coming to the platform. That's why you can't be using the same strategy all year round - your strategy must be flexible and be reviewed now and then! I would say that it's a good idea to have a look at your performance and result in every month, and then based on that, revise your strategy, bearing in mind what works and what doesn't work well for you.

You are now continuing your journey with some new clients, can you please tell us more about that and give any advice to those who want to start their own business and become self-employed?

I would say that the most important thing, as in any journey, is not to be afraid to start and be consistent! Especially, when you start something on your own, it can be extremely terrifying but once you overcome all the fears, you'll notice that there's nothing to be afraid of. All you need is the determination to succeed. Once you have that, believe me, you will succeed and no one can stop you.
