Copenhagen Fashion Week Sustainability Review

Written by: Dilayla Kopuz

Amongst worldwide fashion weeks, Copenhagen carries the flag for sustainability. Don’t we love the fact that if you don’t match the required criteria on sustainability you cannot attend? In my opinion, this proves how to write Vogue Magazine was to choose Copenhagen as the sustainable fashion capital back in 2020.

Let’s dive into why CPHFW is taking sustainability in its centre.

Each year fast fashion is causing over 90 million tonnes of waste and is the second global contributor to CO2 emissions. Which requires the industry the shift towards an eco-friendly approach right away. Copenhagen Fashion Week as a leader in sustainable fashion is developing its designer sustainability requirements annually. CPHFW requires designers/participants collection’s 50% to have certification or be made out of the materials specified on their requirements list.

One of my full-time favourite requirements has also been added to the list really recently, the designers cannot have a collection that includes real animal fur! You can read the full Sustainability designer requirements here!

After briefly touching upon the points of CPHFW’s sustainability requirements let’s take a look at the Street style and shows from this year. We’ve watched 35 physical shows and alongside these great shows, the participant’s street style caught our attention. Whenever we say CPHFW Street style we think of bright colours and positive vibes.

Shall we say mixing and matching bright colours with preferably secondhand accessories is #stylegoals

This year have doubled that up bright colours even further and #Barbiecore style have taken over the city.

One of my favorite influencers Grace Ghanem has also carried #Barbiecore

Incredibly. She also proves that style and looking good has nothing to do with age but has everything to do with your personality and how you carry yourself.

Or instead of all These bright colours are you more of a minimal & sof colour colours to be matched with Vintage pieces for Street style?

From the physical shows the one that caught my attention the most was iso.poetism. Also finally after the global pandemic we’ve all got to see more Scandinavian brands on catwalks and Holzweiler have celebrated their 10th anniversary.
