199 Places to Shop More Consciously

As we look back at the past year, there is something we would genuinely like to celebrate and share with you. What has been remarkable, and something we can truly celebrate, is that since A Sustainable Closet was founded with the mission to make it easier for people to enjoy their style and closets in a more conscious way, visits to our platform have increased significantly. As we summarise our 2025 data, it’s clear that our most popular content is our second-hand, vintage and conscious store guides.

Today, these guides cover 199 carefully curated stores across 11 countries and 17 cities. They range from small, independent second-hand boutiques to well-established vintage destinations, and a few consciously chosen stores offering new items when second hand isn’t an option. What they all share is a focus on quality, longevity and thoughtful consumption.

A few examples from our guides include Revolve in Stockholm, known for its unique items and dresses, and for its personal service. Judits Second Hand is a long-time favourite for good value, high-quality pieces suitable for everything from everyday wear to special occasions. And when buying new is necessary, stores like Green Laces show that it’s possible to make more conscious choices, especially when it comes to shoes.

It also makes us genuinely happy to see readers from all over the world, mainly in the US, Europe and the Nordics, using our city guides. Cities such as Copenhagen, Oslo, Milan and Palma de Mallorca continue to be among the most popular destinations, reflecting a growing interest in second-hand and preloved shopping across very different cultures and contexts.

All of our city guides are curated manually by us and people in our community. We have gone through every guide, removing closed stores, updating addresses and links, and adding new favourites. These are not auto-generated lists; they are built through personal research, local knowledge and firsthand visits.

Stay tuned via our newsletter and social media channels for more highlights from our store guides, where we’ll continue to share favourite cities, shops and discoveries along the way.

If your city isn’t listed yet or if you have favourite stores in a place we already cover, we’d love to hear from you. We’re more than happy to expand our guides to new countries and continents, as well as deepen our coverage within existing ones. We always prefer to build guides based on personal experience and real visits to the stores mentioned, whether from us or from trusted members of our community.

Looking ahead, we truly hope that 2026 becomes a year where these stores thrive, where independent second-hand and conscious retailers are able to build stable businesses, offer fair salaries and continue doing the important work they do. And where we, as consumers, choose second-hand and conscious options as our first choice, whenever possible.

Why not share a guide with a friend or someone you know who lives in or is visiting one of these cities?

Enjoy exploring our guides, and happy conscious shopping.
